The discovery of their uncle's secret journal leads Gwen and JD Porter to a storage unit where a portal—a rip in the fabric of spacetime—brings them much more than they bargained for. But they learn this is just one of many portals.

Gwen, JD and a small group of friends devise a back-up plan should any of them accidentally go through a portal—places where they can leave messages to each other through Time. And when a tragedy occurs during summer vacation, the friends are convinced that despite what their parents told them, the Porters went through a portal, and they vow to save them.
